Barbel rods (23 products)

STATIC OR ACTIVE: WHAT'S YOUR STYLE?

  • Static Fishing: Do you plan to fish for barbel statically, staying in the same spot for hours on end? Then choose a robust rod with enough power to handle heavy feeders or lead. A barbel rod with a test curve of 1.75lb to 2.5lb is ideal for rivers such as the Meuse or the Waal. These rods offer enough power for strong currents and are long enough (usually between 3.6 to 4 metres) to cast far and precisely.

  • Active Fishing: If you prefer an active fishing style, e.g. wandering along the river or fishing with a float, a lighter and more parabolic rod is the best choice. Such a rod absorbs the fish's blows better during the drill, which is essential when using thinner lines. A rod with a test curve around 1.5lb, combined with a good Reel or centrepin, will ensure optimal control and sensation while fishing.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT

  • Landing net: Given the size and strength of the barbel, a spacious and strong landing net is a must. Choose a net with a rubber or latex coating to protect the slime layer of the fish.
  • Unhooking mat: Always provide a good unhooking mat with sufficient padding. Barbs are strong fish that can flounder quickly, a good mat protects the fish from injury.
